Zwitterionic Surfactants are amphiphilic molecules containing:

  • Hydrophilic Head: Both cationic (+) and anionic (-) charges (net neutral)
  • Hydrophobic Tail: Alkyl or aryl chain (e.g., C12–C18)

Example Structures:

  • Betaines: R-N⁺(CH₃)₂-CH₂-COO⁻ (e.g., Cocamidopropyl betaine)
  • Sulfobetaines: R-N⁺(CH₃)₂-CH₂-CH₂-SO₃⁻
