Introduction

Valves and pipes powder coating

Valves and pipes powder coating is an epoxy resin and curing-agent system with strong mechanical performance, a clean film surface, high corrosion resistance and good electrical insulation. It is supplied in standard-cure and low-temperature-cure versions, in a range of gloss levels and colours, and as a hot-melt epoxy variant for demanding pipe and valve duty.

Features & Applications

Excellent mechanical properties (impact, hardness, toughness, adhesion), good surface finish, strong corrosion resistance and good insulation. Used on mechanical and electrical equipment, safes, industrial equipment, pipelines, steel wire and chemical-laboratory equipment.

Specific gravity 1.1–1.8 g/cm³. Standard-cure and low-temperature-cure grades; various gloss and colour options; hot-melt epoxy available.

Mechanical Performance

Test item Standard Index
Pencil hardness GB/T 6739-1996 > 2H
Adhesion GB/T 9286-1998 Grade 0
Bending GB 6742-86 Φ 3 mm
Impact GB/T 1732-93 50 kg·cm
Cupping GB 9753-88 > 6 mm

Corrosion Resistance

Test item Standard Index
Salt spray GB/T 1771-91 No change after 1000 h; unilateral creep at scribe < 2 mm
Heat & humidity GB/T 1740-79 Slight gloss loss after 1000 h, ≤ 1 grade

Laboratory data for reference; actual results depend on environment, equipment, material, pretreatment and spray process.

Valves and pipes powder coating application

Process & Certification

Pretreatment: phosphating, chromating or sandblasting. Application: corona electrostatic, tribo electrostatic, electrostatic fluidized bed or fluidized-bed dip. Cure: 200°C × 10 min or 180°C × 15 min (object temperature); custom schedules on request.

Drinking-water compliance: UK WRA, US NSF/ANSI 61, German KTW/W270; drinking-water valve standards BS/EN 14901 and ANSI/NSF 61.

Packing: 20 kg cartons, double polyethylene liner. Storage: dry, ventilated, below 30°C, out of direct sun; stable for 6 months.

Valves and pipes powder coating performance

Practical note: this is an interior-grade epoxy barrier — its strength is corrosion resistance, adhesion and chemical inertness on valves, pipes and cabinets, not outdoor UV. Epoxy chalks and fades in sunlight, so use it buried, submerged or indoors; for exposed exteriors switch to a polyester or super-durable system. On drinking-water valves, the WRA/NSF 61/KTW certifications only count when the matching gasket, lining and assembly also meet those rules, and the film must be fully cured and holiday-tested before service. Hold cure to object temperature on 180–200°C; undercure loses the salt-spray barrier even if the film looks cured.
