Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP) CAS 7758-29-4
Category:Other Food Additives
Introduction
Product name: Sodium Tripolyphosphate Molecular Formula: Na5P3O10 Molecular Weight: 367.86 CAS No.: 7758-29-4 Description Sodium Tripolyphosphate occurs as white, slightly hygroscopic granules, or as a powder. It is anhydrous or contains six molecules of water of hydration. It is freely soluble in water, but insoluble in alcohol. The pH of a 1:100 aqueous solution is about 9.5. Applications Sodium tripolyphosphate, also known as pentasodium phosphate, sodium pyrometaphosphate, STPP, pentasodium tripolyphosphate. It’s white powdery crystal with good fluidity, relative molecular weight 367.86, melting point 622°C, easily soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is alkaline. It is commonly used in food as moisture retention agent, quality improver, pH regulator, and metal chelating agent. The aqueous solution of sodium tripolyphosphate is weakly alkaline (the PH value of a 1% aqueous solution is about 9.7). It forms a suspension (similar to an emulsion) in water in the pH range of 4.3-14, that is, dispersion. Sodium tripolyphosphate can also make the liquid and solid particles better dissolve in the liquid (such as water) medium, making the solution completely transparent, like a real solution, which is the solubilization effect. Because of the above unique properties of sodium tripolyphosphate, it becomes an important ideal raw material in washing powder.
