Mechanism of Action	Risedronate sodium is a heterocyclic orally active aminobisphosphonate that inhibits bone resorption by selectively targeting osteoclasts. It binds to hydroxyapatite crystals in bone and inhibits the enzyme FPPS, which is crucial for the function of osteoclasts. This reduces the activity of osteoclasts and decreases bone resorption.
Storage Conditions	Store at room temperature (15° to 30°C). Protect from light and moisture.
Special Considerations	– Gastrointestinal Side Effects: Common side effects include nausea, heartburn, and gastrointestinal discomfort. These can be minimized by taking the medication with a full glass of water and remaining upright for at least 30 minutes after administration.<br>- Osteonecrosis of the Jaw: Long-term use may increase the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw, especially in patients receiving high doses or undergoing dental procedures.<br>- Monitoring: Regular monitoring of bone density and calcium levels is recommended, especially in patients with osteoporosis.<br>- Drug Interactions: Risedronate may interact with calcium supplements and antacids, reducing its absorption. These should be taken at least 2 hours apart.<br>- Pregnancy and Lactation: Use with caution in pregnant or breastfeeding women, as safety data are limited.
