Introduction

Rebar powder coating is designed for metal products such as reinforcing bars and steel strands. Selecting the right powder coating for a specific application requires consideration of the substrate, required coating performance, application process, and curing conditions. We develop powder coating solutions for different industrial requirements, with product and process adjustments to help achieve consistent application performance and cost efficiency.

Storage Stability

The stated storage period is 12 months when stored below 30°C. After the storage period expires, the product should be retested and used only if it meets the applicable requirements.

Curing Process

Recommended curing conditions, based on workpiece surface temperature:

  • 200°C for 12 minutes
  • 180°C for 15 minutes

Actual curing requirements should be confirmed against the product’s technical data sheet and the temperature of the coated workpiece.

Pretreatment

Metal substrates should be properly cleaned and degreased before coating. For ferrous metals, zinc phosphating or iron phosphating may be used as appropriate. The original source also refers to chromium-based treatment for aluminum. Select the pretreatment process according to the substrate, required corrosion performance, and applicable environmental regulations.

Coating Application

  • Manual or automatic powder spraying equipment can be used. Automatic spraying is recommended when consistent coating application is required.
  • Unsprayed powder may be recovered and reused through a suitable powder recovery system, subject to powder condition and process requirements.
  • Reported application settings: atomizing air pressure approximately 0.5 bar, primary air pressure approximately 0.5 bar, and spraying voltage 40–90 kV.

Confirm the appropriate equipment settings through application trials and the technical guidance for the specific powder coating.

Damage Repair

  1. Surface preparation: Grind the damaged area as needed and remove dust using clean air.
  2. Recoating: Recoat the prepared area and reduce the spraying voltage as appropriate to the repair conditions.
