It is a drug for the treatment of tuberculosis, which has the effect of antibacterial and bactericidal. Under the condition of pH value of 5 ~ 5.5, the antibacterial activity is the strongest.
Description
It is a white crystalline powder, slightly soluble in water, odorless and slightly bitter.
Application
Combined with other anti tuberculosis drugs, it is used for tuberculosis that has failed to be treated with first-line anti tuberculosis drugs (such as streptomycin, isoniazid, rifampicin and ethambutol). This product is only effective for Mycobacterium. As a second-line drug in the past, this product was often used in retreated patients who failed to be treated with other anti tuberculosis drugs. A large number of clinical studies have shown that the short-term treatment scheme containing this product is suitable for the first treatment cases with positive sputum bacteria, which is generally used for 2 ~ 3 months. This scheme can significantly reduce the positive rate of sputum bacteria after treatment. This product has been recognized as one of the components of triple or quadruple regimens in short-term chemotherapy.
Packing and Storage

| Introduction | Pyrazinamide (PZA) is an antibiotic used primarily to treat tuberculosis (TB). It is a second-line antituberculosis agent that must be used in combination with other TB medications. |
| Mechanism of Action | Pyrazinamide is a prodrug that is converted to pyrazinoic acid by bacterial pyrazinamidase. It inhibits fatty acid synthesis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, particularly effective in acidic environments. |
| Medical Uses | It is used in the initial phase of TB treatment (usually the first 2 months) to help kill TB bacteria. It is also used in cases where first-line drugs fail. |
| Dosage Forms | Available as oral tablets (500 mg) for adults and children. |
| Storage Conditions | Store at room temperature (20°C to 25°C), protect from light and moisture. |
| Common Side Effects | Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, joint and muscle pain, increased uric acid levels, and potential gout flare-ups. |
| Serious Side Effects | Liver damage (jaundice, dark urine, loss of appetite), severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, swelling of face or throat), and acute gout symptoms. |
| Contraindications | Should not be used in patients with active gout or severe liver disease. |
| Precautions | Regular monitoring of liver function and uric acid levels is required. Patients with diabetes should be cautious as PZA may affect blood sugar control. |
