Mechanism of Action	Inositol nicotinate is a compound composed of niacin (vitamin B3) and inositol. It releases nicotinic acid (niacin) in the body, which has vasodilatory effects, reduces plasma triglycerides and atherogenic lipoproteins (VLDL, LDL, lipoprotein a), and increases antiatherogenic HDL levels.<br> It also inhibits microsomal enzyme diacylglycerol acyltransferase 2 (DGAT2), reducing triglyceride synthesis and hepatic atherogenic lipoprotein secretion.
Therapeutic Uses	Raynaud Syndrome: May improve symptoms by dilating blood vessels.<br> Hyperlipidemia: Used to lower cholesterol levels, though evidence is inconclusive.<br> Intermittent Claudication: Some evidence suggests it may improve walking distance, but results are inconsistent.<br> Other Uses: Investigated for migraine, scleroderma, insomnia, hypertension, restless legs syndrome, acne, psoriasis, schizophrenia, and more, but evidence is insufficient.
Pharmacokinetics	Absorption: Approximately 70% of an orally ingested dose is absorbed from the stomach and upper small intestines.<br> Distribution: Mean volume of distribution in rats is 1051±250 mL/kg.<br> Metabolism: Undergoes hydrolysis by plasma esterases, releasing nicotinic acid and inositol in a sustained manner.<br> Elimination: Unabsorbed inositol nicotinate is excreted in feces.<br> Half-Life: Mean elimination half-life in healthy adults is approximately one hour.
Side Effects	May cause stomach upset, intestinal gas, nausea, and liver damage.
