Application

Gemcitabine (2-Deoxy-2,2-difluorocytidine) is a pyrimidine nucleotide analogue, which belongs to the anti-metabolic anti-cancer drug. It mainly acts on the DNA synthesis phase, that is, the S phase. Under certain conditions, it can prevent the progression of the G1 phase to the S phase. It has the characteristics of broad anti-cancer spectrum, unique mechanism of action, low toxicity, no cross-resistance with other chemotherapeutics, and no superimposition of toxicity. Today, gemcitabine has been approved for use in more than 90 countries, becoming the first-line drug for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer and the “gold standard” for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Gemcitabine can be used in combination with cisplatin in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. It can also treat advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer. Gemcitabine is also a kind of bone marrow inhibitor, so blood cell count should be checked during the medication (especially before each intravenous infusion).
