Category:powder Coating | Brand:MT
Introduction
Functional powder coatings are solvent-free, 100% solids dry coatings. They do not use solvents, which lowers environmental impact, conserves resources, and supports overspray recovery while delivering a film with strong mechanical strength.
Beyond conventional protection and decoration, functional powder coatings add specific properties to metal surfaces — including insulation, conductivity, anti-pollution, heat resistance, flame retardancy, and radiation shielding. Our functional powder coatings are engineered for harsh environments, resistance to damage, and alignment with specific technical standards across construction, electronics, medical, and heavy industry.

Key Functional Systems
Insulated Powder Coatings
Used on motors and electrical / electronic components. Beyond general protection and decoration, the coating offers good electrical insulation. Epoxy resins are a common base; by adjusting curing agents, modifiers, and insulation- and heat-resistant fillers, the curing rate and film flexibility can be tuned to different insulation requirements. Polyurethane, polyimide, and acrylic systems are also in development and use.
Conductive Powder Coatings
Applied to non-conductive substrates to provide controlled current conduction and static dissipation. These coatings mainly come in two types: blended and intrinsic. Blended systems use an insulating polymer binder with conductive fillers such as silver, nickel, zinc, aluminum, graphite, carbon black, or metal oxides; binders include vinyl, polyester, polyamide, and epoxy resins. Intrinsically conductive polymers remain largely in research and are not yet widely used commercially.
Anti-Corrosive Powder Coatings
Epoxy phenolic anti-corrosion systems use epoxy and phenolic resins as film-forming materials that cross-link into the coating. Epoxy resins of molecular weight 1400, 2900, and 3570 are commonly used. The combination brings together epoxy’s adhesion, flexibility, and alkali resistance with phenolic’s acid, solvent, heat, and humidity resistance. A small amount of imidazole catalyst can lower the required curing temperature.
Heat-Resistant Powder Coatings
These coatings can long withstand temperatures above 200°C while keeping the film intact and the protected part functional. Heat resistance is improved through molecular structure design — introducing larger or more polar side groups in the main chain to increase intermolecular interaction — and through heat-resistant pigments and fillers such as aluminum powder, mica, stainless steel powder, and silica. Silicone-based systems remain the mainstream; future development focuses on high-temperature resins and new pigment/filler combinations.
Decorative Powder Coatings
Decorative powder coatings deliver clear surface patterns and a rich, colorful appearance. Pattern formation differs from solvent-based paints and depends on the powder’s melting behavior, texture effect, recipe mix, preparation technique, and particle size. Main development directions include: using incompatible polymers for three-dimensional patterns; pairing curing agents with different curing rates to form controlled wrinkles; using different fillers to vary leveling, gloss, and hue; and placing metallic pigments of different granularity and shade at varying positions and angles to create gloss and tone variation.
Flame-Retardant Powder Coatings
Flame-retardant powder coatings provide fire resistance and flame-retardant insulation. With the growth of electronics and appliances, demand for such coatings has risen. The main variety is epoxy-based powder coating. Functional powder coatings play an increasing role across science, industry, and agriculture; ongoing R&D focuses on cost-effective systems with balanced overall performance to meet end-market needs.
