Mechanism of Action Eprazinone is a mucolytic and bronchodilator with both central and peripheral cough-suppressing effects. It selectively inhibits the cough center in the brainstem and reduces the viscosity of mucus, making it easier to expel. It also acts as a ligand for the neurokinin 1 receptor (NK1R) and may exert anti-inflammatory effects by regulating lipid composition in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL) and modulating airway ion transport.
Therapeutic Uses Respiratory Conditions: Used for the treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis, cough, rhinitis, and asthma.<br> Mucolytic and Bronchodilator: Improves lung function and arterial oxygen levels.
Dosage Adults: 40–80 mg orally, 3–4 times daily.<br> Children: Half the adult dose.
Side Effects Headache, somnolence, vertigo, heartburn, nausea.
