Introduction

Thermoplastic Road Striping has dominated the traffic marking industry for decades.Thermoplastic pavement marking material is a 100% solid, heat-activated compound made of binder, pigments, fillers, and glass beads. When heated, it liquefies to form a highly durable, reflective, and skid-resistant surface that outlasts traditional paint by years and returns to service in just minutes.
Key Formulations:
Hydrocarbon vs. Alkyd: Thermoplastic is generally formulated using petroleum-derived resins (hydrocarbon) or wood-derived resins (alkyd). Alkyd formulas are often preferred for their high resistance to oil and grease.
Preformed Thermoplastic: Factory-produced markings and symbols that are ready to apply using a simple hand torch, eliminating the need for expensive melting kettles on-site.
Extrude / Spray Thermoplastic: Granular or block formats that are loaded into large premelt tanks and applied via machine for long continuous lines on highways.
Core Components:
Glass Beads: Embedded in or dropped onto the hot liquid to provide necessary nighttime retroreflectivity.
Pigments: Provide bold, lasting color (typically white or yellow).
Binder: Resin/plasticizer mixtures that provide bond strength, flexibility, and toughness.
Fillers: Inert substances like sand and calcium carbonate that add bulk and structural integrity.

Application ProcessPreparation:
The pavement must be completely clean, dry, and free of debris. Concrete surfaces usually require a specialized Thermoplastic Primer for maximum adhesion.
Heating: The material is heated to temperatures generally ranging from 300°F to 400°F until it transitions into a liquid state that thermally fuses to the asphalt.
Curing: Unlike traditional paints that require an hour or more to cure, thermoplastic cools and sets in as little as 5 minutes, significantly reducing traffic
Offering exceptional durability and engineered to last up to 6 to 8 times longer than traditional waterborne paint, our heavy-duty, preformed thermoplastic pavement marking materials deliver long-lasting durability, retroreflectivity, skid resistance, and cost effectiveness. Our preformed thermoplastics are ideal for transverse markings such as lines, legends, arrows, symbols, heavy-duty intersection crosswalks, and custom horizontal surface signage.

1、Preformed Thermoplastic:
If you need pre-formed thermoplastic for pavement marking and road signage, we supply a wide variety of markings and sizes to cover just about any job you have. The preformed thermoplastics we use are do not require pre-heating, so you can put it down, heat it and move on. Use on concrete (with sealer) or asphalt and designed for highways or streets.
Our pre-cut lines, legends and symbols for roadway delineation, pedestrian areas and bike lanes can be used on asphalt or concrete and are ideal when it comes to highly visible, durable road markings.
Performance Benefits:
Ease of application, no preheat required
Pre-cut, ready to use out of the box
No stencils required
Minimal equipment investment
Highly durable with a long service life
Excellent adhesion to asphalt or concrete
Available in high skid resistance

2、Methyl Methacrylate (MMA)
MMA Two-component traffic paint is a highly versatile, durable option for line striping high-traffic areas such as roadways, parking lots, crosswalks, bike paths and bus lanes. Two-component paint is formed by mixing a pigmented base resin with a polymer curing agent. When mixed and applied immediately, these two elements polymerize to form a strong, long-lasting compound.
Methyl Methacrylate is a nonhazardous, two-component, durable pavement marking material. The material exists as a solid that is mixed in a static mixer immediately prior to application. MMA can be sprayed or extruded onto the pavement. The material forms a strong bond to the pavement surface by exothermic reaction (release of heat) that occurs during the mixing process.
Methyl methacrylate was originally marketed as an environmentally friendly alternative to solvent-borne paints. However, MMA has been shown to provide much longer service life than standard traffic paint. A service life of greater than three years is common. In addition, the material is designed to be resistant to oils, antifreeze, and other common chemicals found on the roadway surface. MMA reportedly bonds well to concrete pavements. MMA materials are usually applied at thicknesses of 40 mils. Because MMA does not rely on the addition of heat to cure, it is an attractive material in cold-weather climates. Research in cold-weather climates has shown very good performance for MMA. Costs for methyl methacrylate have been reported to be comparable to those of epoxy materials. As with all other two-component marking materials, a drawback to the use of MMA is that it requires special equipment for application. Table 2-17 summarizes recommended use of methyl methacrylate pavement markings on concrete.

3、Hot-Applied Thermoplastic
Our hot-applied material is a solid compound containing pigments, glass beads, binder, and filler that becomes liquid when heated. Thanks to the glass beads that are mixed into the material, you are guaranteed a high visibility and performance through the marking’s entire lifetime.
Hot-applied products are used for all types of line marking purposes and is suitable for both Type I and Type II marking. The fast application and hardening process ensures a quick re-opening for traffic, while the long durability limits the need for frequent re-markings.
Applied on roads across most of the world, it is known for its high performance and long-term durability when applied as centre lines, edge lines, hatched areas, and pedestrian crossings. is suitable for both Type I and Type II markings and can be extruded, sprayed, or manually applied. The material is adjusted to all climates and has been tested, tried, and internationally certified according to the most stringent standards.

Types of Hot Applied Thermoplastic:
While thermoplastics all share the basic property of being workable while hot and solid when cooler, they diverge widely in other features such as weight, hardness, and derivation.
Spray Hot-Applied Thermoplastic
Spray thermoplastic is formulated for spray application at thicknesses of 30 – 40 mils. Spray thermoplastic makes an excellent maintenance coating for touching up worn traffic lines or as a paint alternative for skip lines, edge lines, or centerlines. When matched with the proper glass bead, Spray thermoplastic adds additional years of retro-reflectivity to an otherwise faded pavement marking.
Product Benefits:
Formulated for spray application at 30-40 mils
Cost-effective alternative for use on low ADT roads
Economical refurbishment for touching up worn, linear thermoplastic markings
Durable alternative to paint for skip lines, edge lines, or center lines
Applied with the proper glass beads, adds additional cycles of retroreflectivity to otherwise faded pavement markings

No-Primer Hot-Applied Thermoplastic
No-Primer is an outstanding thermoplastic traffic marking formulated for use on asphalt and concrete without the need of a primer. No-Primer’s excellent bond strength and flexible film make it an ideal choice for high ADT concrete roadways. No Primer is compatible with other Ennis-Flint’s thermoplastics, thereby minimizing the need for complete melter clean outs when switching from one formulation to another.
Product Benefits:
Formulated for use on asphalt and newer concrete without primer
Specialized formulation provides improved durability, crack resistance, abrasion resistance, and adhesion in adverse conditions including snow plow areas
Flexible film makes it an ideal choice for high ADT concrete roadways
