Description

It occurs as white crystalline platelets or a powder. One gram dissolves in about 30 mL of water. It is soluble in dilute acids and in solutions of alkali hydroxides. It is very slightly soluble in alcohol, and practically insoluble in ether. It is optically inactive. The pH of a 1:100 aqueous solution is between 5.6 and 6.1.

Application

In the pharmaceutical industry, DL-methionine can be used as a main component of amino acid infusion and complex amino acids, and can also be used to synthesize medicinal vitamins, and can be used for the production of liver-protecting preparations by utilizing its anti-fatty liver function.

In the food industry, it can be used as a nutritional supplement, and it is only used in fish cake products because of its special smell.

In the feed industry, it is used as a nutritional supplement for feed to compensate for the amino acid balance.
