Cyclopentane-1,2-dicarboximide (1,2-CPDI), also known as 1,2-环戊二甲酰亚胺, is a cyclic amide compound with the molecular formula C₇H₉NO₂ and a molecular weight of 139.15 g/mol. It appears as a white to off-white crystalline powder, with a melting point of 168 °C (decomposes) and a boiling point of 322.2 °C at 760 mmHg. 1,2-CPDI is highly soluble in organic solvents like chloroform and acetonitrile and is stable under normal storage conditions (2-8°C, sealed, dry). As a key intermediate in pharmaceutical synthesis, it is used to produce antidiabetic drugs such as gliclazide and plays a crucial role in the treatment of non-insulin-dependent diabetes. Its synthesis typically involves cyclopentane-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride or related precursors. While chemically stable, 1,2-CPDI should be handled with care to avoid inhalation or skin contact due to potential irritant properties.
