Indications
  • Treatment of open-angle glaucoma
  • Management of ocular hypertension
  • Prevention of intraocular pressure elevation following anterior segment laser surgery
Mechanism of Action
  • Selective α2-adrenergic agonist
  • Reduces intraocular pressure (IOP) by decreasing aqueous humor production and increasing uveoscleral outflow
  • Potential neuroprotective effects
Dosage Form Eye drops
Strength 5 ml: 10 mg
Administration Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily
Contraindications
  • Hypersensitivity to brimonidine or any component of the formulation
  • Patients undergoing treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors
Side Effects
  • Dry mouth, fatigue, eye irritation (burning, stinging)
  • Headache, blurred vision, eye discomfort
  • Conjunctival filtration, allergic reactions

Precautions
  • Use cautiously in patients with severe cardiovascular disease
