Introduction

It is highly soluble in water and ethanol but insoluble in non-polar solvents like ethers and benzene. BSA is widely used as a catalyst in esterification and dehydration reactions due to its mild oxidizing nature compared to sulfuric acid. Industrially, it serves as a key intermediate in phenol and resorcinol production via alkaline fusion processes. Additionally, BSA acts as a surfactant precursor, acidifying agent in oilfield applications, and a reagent in dye and pharmaceutical synthesis. Its stability under normal conditions and reactivity toward nucleophiles make it valuable in both laboratory and industrial settings.
