Oxygen is a component of air, colorless, odorless and tasteless. Oxygen is denser than air, with a density of 1.429 g/L under standard conditions (0℃ and atmospheric pressure 101325 Pa). The method of large-scale production of oxygen is to fractionate liquid air. First, air is compressed, and then it is frozen into liquid air after it expands. Since the boiling points of rare gases and nitrogen are lower than those of oxygen, after fractionation, the remaining is liquid oxygen, which can be stored in high-pressure cylinders. All oxidation reactions and combustion processes require oxygen. For example, when removing impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus during steelmaking, the temperature of oxygen and acetylene mixture is as high as 3500℃ when it burns, which is used for welding and cutting of steel. Glass manufacturing, cement production, mineral roasting, and hydrocarbon processing all require oxygen. Liquid oxygen is also used as rocket fuel, which is cheaper than other fuels. For people working in low-oxygen or hypoxic environments, such as divers and astronauts, oxygen is indispensable for maintaining life. However, the active states of oxygen, such as OH, and H2O2. have serious damaging effects on biological tissues, and ultraviolet damage to skin and eyes is mostly related to this effect.
