Introduction
1,4-Butenediol, also known as 2-Butene-1,4-diol, is a versatile organic compound with the molecular formula C₄H₈O₂ and a molecular weight of 88.11 g/mol. It exists as a mixture of cis and trans isomers and is widely used as an intermediate in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and polymers. As a key precursor to vitamin B6, pesticides (e.g., endosulfan), and polyester fibers, 1,4-butenediol plays a critical role in synthetic chemistry. Physically, it is a colorless to pale yellow liquid, soluble in water, ethanol, and acetone but insoluble in nonpolar solvents like benzene. Its reactivity stems from the presence of both an alkene and diol functional groups, enabling reactions such as hydration, oxidation, and polymerization. However, its low flash point (128 °C) and toxicity (LD₅₀ in rats: 1.25 mL/kg) necessitate careful handling and storage under inert conditions to prevent decomposition or hazardous reactions.
Usage: Used as an intermediate for the preparation of pesticides, agricultural chemicals and vitamin B6, and a small amount is used in polymer production.
Packaging and Shipping: 200KG/drum or as per buyer requirement.
Storage: Stored in a dry and ventilated warehouse; keep away from sunshine; avoid fire; avoid moisture.
