Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, is a supplement that helps your body absorb calcium. It’s typically used to treat people who have a vitamin D deficiency or related disorder, such as rickets or osteomalacia.

Description

Colecalciferol is a white or almost white crystal. It is practically insoluble in water, freely soluble in ethanol (96 per cent), soluble in trimethylpentane and in fatty oils. It is sensitive to air, heat and light. Solutions in solvents without an antioxidant are unstable and are to be used immediately.

Application

It also known as cholecalciferol, is a kind of vitamin D. At present, there are at least 10 kinds of vitamin D, but the most important are vitamin D2 (ergocalcidol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is a fat-soluble vitamin, which is the most important form of vitamin D family. Its main function is to regulate the metabolism of calcium and phosphorus in the body.

It is mainly synthesized by the human body itself. The skin of the human body contains a kind of cholesterol, which becomes vitamin D3 after being exposed to sunlight. With moderate skin exposure to the sun, most people can use ultraviolet rays and cholesterol in their skin to synthesize their own vitamin D.

When the human body lacks vitamin D, the ability to absorb calcium and phosphorus is reduced, and the level of calcium and phosphorus in the blood is decreased, so that calcium and phosphorus cannot be deposited in the bone tissue, and even bone salt will dissolve, which hinders the calcification of the bone. If vitamin D is deficient, children suffer from rickets and adults suffer from osteomalacia.

It has the following physiological functions:

1) Improve the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, make the level of plasma calcium and phosphorus reach saturation;

2) Promote growth and bone calcification, promote healthy teeth;

3) Increase the absorption of phosphorus through the intestinal wall, and increase the reabsorption of phosphorus through the renal tubules;

4) Maintain the normal level of citrate in blood;

5) Prevent the loss of amino acids through the kidney.
