Introduction
Molecular Formula: C49H81NO23
Molecular Weight: 1052.16
CAS No.: 1405-54-5
Description:It is white or yellowish powder. It is slightly soluble in water and can be made into water-soluble salt with acid. The saline solution is stable in weak alkali and weak acid solutions.
Application:It is effective against Gram-positive bacteria and some negative bacteria, but its effect is weak and strong against Mycoplasma. Tylosin tartrate is one of the macrolides with strong effect against Mycoplasma. It is easy to develop drug resistance to tylosin sensitive bacteria and mycoplasma, and cross resistant to erythromycin and other antibiotics.
Packing and Storage:Preserve in well-closed containers, protected from light, moisture, and excessive heat. Store at 25°C, excursions permitted between 15°Cand 30°C.
Tylosin Tartrate: A Veterinary Antibiotic
Tylosin Tartrate is a widely – used antibiotic in veterinary medicine.
1. General Information
| Aspect | Details |
| Classification | Macrolide antibiotic |
| Source | Produced by fermentation of Streptomyces fradiae |
| Formulation | Available as powders, premixes, and soluble powders for oral administration; also as injectable solutions |
| Solubility | Soluble in water, which facilitates its use in drinking water for livestock |
2. Mechanism of Action
| Action | Explanation |
| Inhibition of Protein Synthesis | Tylosin Tartrate binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria. This binding interferes with the translocation process during protein synthesis, preventing the movement of the ribosome along the mRNA. As a result, the elongation of the polypeptide chain is halted, and bacterial protein synthesis is inhibited. |
| Selective Activity | It mainly targets Gram – positive bacteria, as well as some Gram – negative bacteria and mycoplasmas. The unique structure of the ribosomes in these organisms allows for specific binding of tylosin tartrate. |
3. Clinical Applications and Considerations
| Category | Details |
| Applications | – Used to treat respiratory tract infections in poultry, swine, and cattle, often caused by Mycoplasma spp., Pasteurella spp., and Streptococcus spp.- Effective in controlling enteric infections in livestock, such as swine dysentery caused by Brachyspira hyodysenteriae- Can be used as a growth promoter in some livestock farming systems to improve feed efficiency and weight gain |
| Considerations | – Overuse may lead to the development of antibiotic – resistant bacteria. Therefore, proper dosage and treatment duration should be followed according to veterinary guidelines.- May cause mild gastrointestinal upset in some animals, such as reduced appetite or diarrhea. Monitoring of animals during treatment is necessary. |
Tylosin Tartrate plays a crucial role in veterinary medicine for treating and preventing various bacterial and mycoplasma infections in livestock.
