Synthesis Procedure

  1. Bromination: Cyclohexene + Br₂ → 1,2-Dibromohexane.
  2. Dehydrobromination: Treat with NaOH/ethanol → 3,6-Dibromocyclohexene.
  3. Hydrogenation: Catalytic hydrogenation → 1,3-Dibromocyclohexane.
  4. Hydrolysis: Aqueous NaOH → 1,3-Cyclohexanol.
  5. Oxidation: Cu-catalyzed heating with air/O₂ → 1,3-Cyclohexanedione.
